Busters Split with McCook

Indian Hills Friday

Garden City, KS-The Garden City Community College Broncbusters earned their first win of the 2014 Season defeating the McCook Community College Indians 6-3 today at Williams Stadium. Starting Pitcher Dalton Shalberg pitched five innings striking out seven batters.  The 6'5" freshman from Lakin, KS gave up just two runs.

The Busters twice doubled today in the bottom of the sixth.  Rocky Desantis doubled to start the inning. Cale Dineen struck out followed by Tyler Tucker who reached base on a walk.  Sophomore Tyler Alitz went to work and scored Desantis and Tucker, on a double making the score 6-3 Busters. Pitcher Austin Aspegren got the save for Garden City while Marcus McKinney earned the win.

In game two the Busters tied the score at one in the top of the sixth with an RBI double by Rocky Desantis.  The score remained tied at the end of seven.  In the bottom of the eighth the Busters lost a golden opportunity loading the bases with one out but could not convert.

Josh Thomas replaced Austin Aspegren at pitcher. Ethan Freeman flew out and he K'd Justin Terry followed by a Mike Deherrera ground out to end the inning. In the top of the tenth the Indians loaded the bases.  Relief Pitcher Sophomore Josh Thomas walked Philpot scoring Jason Lighthall who singled then Dereck Dithomas' sac fly scored Jordan Compehos who was walked and the Indians took the lead 3-2.

The Busters fought back in the bottom of the tenth. Francisco Alvarez doubled followed by a Tyler Tucker single advancing Alvarez to third.  Caleb Zimmer laid down a sac bunt scoring Alvarez, Indians three Busters two.  After an intentional walk on Rocky Desantis, Triffon Tatarin came to the plate. Tatarin was thrown out at first.  First Baseman Mike Deherrera was pulled off the bag and tagged Tatarin crossing the bag for out three to end the game.

Garden City (1-1) will take on Indian Hills this weekend in a four game series. Game one will be played Friday, February 14th, at Williams Stadium.  First pitch is at 1pm.
