Staying on top; Garden City remains No. 1 in the polls

Garden City, KS-Garden City's remarkable turnaround season keeps getting better.

On Saturday, the Broncbusters captured their first conference title in 15 years with a dominating 36-7 victory over No. 12 Dodge City Saturday night.

"It really hasn't sunk in just yet," Head Coach Jeff Sims said. "All of these guys have worked so hard, and they've bought into the process."

Garden City's fifth straight victory over a preseason top-20 team earned them the top spot in the NJCAA rankings for the second straight week. Four out of those five wins have come on the road.

"This program has come a long way," Sims said. "But we still have a ways to go. We still have business to take care of."

The Broncbusters are 8-0 and have won 10 out of their last 11 games dating back to last season.

Garden City garnered five of the nine first-place votes while No. 2 Arizona Western received four. 7-1 East Mississippi is third followed by Trinity Valley and Northwest Mississippi.

Coffeyville moved up six spots from 17 to 11 while Dodge City dropped five slots from 12 to 17.

Garden City is off this week before hosting Iowa Central at 1 p.m. on Nov. 5.
