Garden City finishes regular season atop the polls

Garden City, KS-The greatest single-season turnaround in junior-college football history just keeps getting better.

For the fifth straight week, Garden City was ranked No. 1 in the final regular-season NJCAA poll released on Tuesday.

"Our guys have earned that spot," Head Coach Jeff Sims said. "They've earned the right to be the No. 1 team in the country."

The Broncbusters received five of the nine first-place votes with second-ranked Arizona Western receiving three and No. 3 East Mississippi getting the other.

"I'm so proud of these players," Sims said. "They knew all along that if they finished unbeaten, they would have a chance to play for something pretty special in December."

That decision of where the National Championship game will be played will be made at noon on Tuesday.

Garden City is the longest-tenured No. 1 team in the nation following their 27-6 victory over Fort Scott. The Broncbusters have won 12 out of their last 13 games dating back to last season. They also finished the regular season unbeaten for the first time since 2000.

Trinity Valley moved up from five to four while Northwest Mississippi dropped from four to five. Butler is 14th while Highland is No. 17.
