Fort Scott, KS-The Garden City men placed eighth and the women's team seventh at the 2017 Fort Scott Rodeo.
Tanner Hayes paced the men's squad by winning both rounds and the average in saddle bronc riding. He scored a 75 in the long go and scored 79 points in the short. His performance moved him up to third place in the region standings.
"I told him that he (Hayes) needed to make a statement," Garden City Coach Jim Boy Hash said afterwards. "He has been working his tail off to get better, and it is definitely paying off."
Tucker McClain won the long go in team roping with Luke Meier from Panhandle State with a 5.7 second run. They did not record a time in the short go and ended up eighth in the average.
Tyler Erickson qualified for the short go in bareback riding by taking third place in the long go. He finished eighth in average.
"Anytime we can go into Ft. Scott and win one of the horse-riding events, I am elated," Hash said.
On the women's front, Jayme Flowers was the lone qualifier to make the short go. She placed 10th in the long go but improved her time in the short, completing a fifth-place finish in the average.
