Broncbusters best Williston State in shootout, 14-13

The bats were busy at Garden City, KS on Saturday, and when the dust cleared Broncbusters had a 14-13 win over Williston State in eight innings.

There were 33 hits, including five extra base hits in the game.

The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to nine lead changes in the game.

Broncbusters finally managed to grab the lead after a strong eighth inning. Broncbusters went up for good on an RBI single by Shaylene Shepherd offJalen Creech, plating Nicole Milford.

 
 

Williston State couldn't slow down Cheyenne Phelps, who paced Broncbusters with five hits. She singled in the first, second, fifth, sixth, and eighth innings.

 

Shepherd got the win for Broncbusters despite allowing 13 runs over eight innings. She struck out six, walked three and surrendered 14 hits.

Broncbusters easily handled Williston State pitching as six hitters combined for 17 hits, 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Creech couldn't get it done on the rubber for Williston State, taking a loss. She allowed six runs in 4 1/3 innings, walked none and struck out seven.

Williston State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Creech kicked things off for Williston State with a single.

After a quick strike from Williston State, Broncbusters responded with three runs in the first. Broncbusters scored on an RBI single by Kaitlyn Bean and a two-run double by Hailey Motherwell.

Broncbusters matched its two-run second inning with two more in the fourth. In the second, Broncbusters scored on a single by Tascha Holeman.

Williston State scored four runs in the third, keyed by a solo blast off the bat of Madison McGonigal.

Broncbusters got one-run boosts in each of the third, sixth and eighth. In the third, Broncbusters scored on an error, scoring Holeman.

Williston State outdone by Erin Jankiewicz and Broncbusters, 11-6

Erin Jankiewicz had three RBIs as Broncbusters took home an 11-6 victory over Williston State in six innings at Garden City, KS on Saturday.

She singled in the first inning and homered in the third inning.

Even though Kaitlyn Bean allowed six runs over six innings she still recorded the victory. She struck out three, walked one and surrendered 10 hits.

Madison Raynaud ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She allowed 10 runs in four innings, walked one and struck out two.

The top of the first saw Williston State take an early lead, 2-0. More runs came home for Williston State when Raynaud scored on an RBI single byElyssa Escobar-Mancuso.

Broncbusters went up for good in the first, scoring three runs on an RBI double by Bean, an error, and an RBI single by Jankiewicz.

Broncbusters added six more runs in the bottom of the third. The inning looked promising, as Nicole Milford singled, scoring Hailey Motherwell andTascha Holeman to kick things off.

After pushing across one run in the top of the fourth, Williston State faced just a 9-3 deficit. An RBI single by Grace Erickson gave Williston State life. But, Bean got Madison Raynaud to to end the inning.

Broncbusters survived Williston State's surge and put up one run of its own in the fourth. Broncbusters scored on an RBI single by Milford.

Broncbusters answered Williston State's top inning with one run of its own in the fifth. Broncbusters scored on a passed ball.

Williston State scored two runs in the top of the sixth to cut its deficit to five. A two-run home run by Madison McGonigal sparked Williston State's rally. Broncbusters closed the game out when Bean got Madison Raynaud to strike out.
