Good Effort Falls Short

Hailey Motherwell's effort not enough in Broncbusters's 5-0 loss

Broncbusters lost despite Hailey Motherwell's spectacular day from both the mound and the plate.

Broncbusters was led by Motherwell's hitting. Motherwell went 2-3. She singled in the second and fourth innings.

Motherwell put together a nice outing. Colby Community College managed just one hit off of the Broncbusters' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out six during her four innings of work.

Kylee Burnside got it done in the circle on the way to a win. She tossed seven innings of shutout ball. She struck out five, walked one and surrendered four hits.

Kaitlyn Bean ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She lasted just two innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed five runs.

The lead stayed with Colby Community College after the first, when it scored one run on a groundout by Shelbie Day.

Colby Community College built upon its lead with four runs in the second. The inning looked promising, as Taya McWilliams singled to kick things off.

Broncbusters drops 12-4 game toColby Community College

Despite Hailey Motherwell's 2-2 performance at the plate on Wednesday, Broncbusters took a 12-4 loss at the hands of Colby Community College at Colby, KS.

Colby Community College easily handled Broncbusters pitching as seven hitters combined for 15 hits, nine RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Haleigh Johnson was charged with the loss. She allowed 12 runs in four innings, walked none and struck out one.

The game's last lead went to Colby Community College thanks to a second inning rally that saw five runs cross the plate on an RBI double by Angel Micciulli, a two-run error, and two singles.

Four runs in the top of the fifth helped Broncbusters close its deficit to 9-4. An error, a groundout by Kalie Vernon, an RBI single by Erin Jankiewicz, and an RBI double by Motherwell set off Broncbusters rally. Mara Nash ended the game by getting Shaylene Shepherd to strike out.

Colby Community College tacked on another three runs in the fifth. A two-run home run by Hannah Charlton ignited the offense,, bringing home Collette West. That was followed up by Jennifer Slaughter's single, scoring Kylee Burnside.
