Garden City softball lands eight on All-Academic Team

Garden City, KS-During her tenure as softball coach, Becky Gundy has built a track record of producing winning players in the classroom.

On Wednesday, eight of her girls: Erica Vessels, Haleigh Johnson, Hannah Adams, Kasie Smith, Leisha Nakagawa, Rebekah Roberts, Savanna Gyurman and Shaycin Koehn were named to the NJCAA All-Academic team.

Vessels, a freshman, was one of four players that landed on the second team with a 3.8 GPA. She was also one of Gundy's most consistent players on the field last season, finishing second on the team with a .347 average while clubbing eight homers and knocking in 50.

Adams, a utility player, made the second team along with Roberts, who hit a team-best .365.

Smith, Nakagawa, who has already signed with Missouri Valley College, Gyurman and Koehn, all made the third team with a 3.60 GPA.
