Garden City rips right through Pratt

Garden City rips right through Pratt

By Mike Pilosof

Garden City, KS-Head Coach Charles Long had waited for this moment.

Two years ago, the Broncbuster women were the doormats of the Jayhawk Conference. On Wednesday afternoon, they showed just how far they had come.

Kelly Ramirez and Natalie DePauli each scored twice, while the Garden City defense humiliated Pratt 9-0 at Broncbuster Stadium.

"This group is very close," Ramirez said after the match. "I'm so proud to see how far we've come as a program."

Garden City (1-1-1) wasted no time getting out of the gates. Ramirez scored on an assist from Frenchelle Bryant and Alyssa Martinez found Sierra Riveria to make it 2-0 four minutes into the contest.

The avalanche continued when Frenchelle and Ramirez added scores to boost the lead to 4-0.

"The first goal; it was just a great setup," Ramirez said. "The second one, I just made a few moves and found myself open."

Ramirez undersold the beauty of her second goal, which brough Broncbuster Stadium to their feet.

Depauli scored back-to-back goals to close the half before Ruth Estrada, Leanne Klines and Rivera put the finishing touches on Pratt (0-4, 0-2) in the second half.
