Shorthanded Broncbusters blanked in Hutch

Hutchinson, KS-Garden City was missing four starters on Wednesday Afternoon.

The final score definitely reflected that.

Jordan Downing netted two goals and dished out three assists as Hutchinson raced past the short-handed Broncbusters 5-0 at the Blue Dragons Sports Complex.

"We could not contain her (Downing)," Head Coach Charles Long said afterwards. "It was just one of those days."

Downing was more interested in setting up her teammates in the early going than she was scoring. First she found Jordan Smith for the first goal of the afterrnoon, which came in the final 12 minutes of the first half. Her second dime came five minutes after half time when she located a streaking Sheena Nichol, who put the ball in the back of the net for a 2-0 Blue Dragon advantage.

It only got worse from there.

12 minutes later, Downing added a goal to her tally, sneaking past the Garden City defense for a 3-0 advantage.

After Loiuse Doherty put Hutchinson (6-0, 3-0) up 4-0, it was Downing putting the finishing touches on a masterpiece.

"Considering what we were missing, the girls played well," Long said. "Our center backs were very agressive. We put a lot of work in and never quit."

Garden City falls to 2-3-1 and 1-1 in the conference. They are back home Saturday to take on Hesston.
