Wilburton, OK-Garden City dug themselves into an early hole on Sunday and never recovered.
The Mountaineers scored a goal in the first two minutes of the match and never looked back as Eastern Oklahoma State handed the Broncbusters their first loss of the season, 3-0. "We came up short today," assistant coach Hector Martinez said.
"We couldn't do much after giving up that goal early in the match."
Jose Maria Ruarte struck with a goal on a penalty kick less than three minutes in to put Eastern Oklahoma State on top.
"We just couldn't get anything goinga today," Martinez added.
Things went from bad to worse later in the first half when Ruarte sent a cross into the box. Gabriel Melo tried to clear it out but came up short. As the ball popped into the air, Marli Greaves tried to help out, but he accidentally headed the ball into his own goal, giving the Mountaineers a 2-0 advantage.
"This game is over, and we need to think about the next one," Martinez said.
The match stayed 2-0 until the 87th minute when Eastern Oklahoma State added another goal, putting the finishing touches on the shutout.
