Broncbusters Split with No. 3 Cloud County on the Road

Concordia, KS – The Garden City Community College Broncbusters split a conference road doubleheader against No. 3 ranked Cloud County Community College on Saturday afternoon at Lee Doyen Field, responding with a strong bounce-back win in the nightcap after a tough loss in the opener.
Game 1: No. 3 Cloud County 6, Garden City 4
The opener featured a competitive back-and-forth contest as the Broncbusters struck early and carried momentum into the late innings.
Garden City jumped ahead with a three-run third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Sean Togher. The Broncbusters added another run in the seventh to extend their lead, finishing with seven hits on the afternoon.
On the mound, Walker Maximick and Gabe Grandy combined to keep Cloud County in check through the middle innings, limiting the Thunderbirds' offense and keeping Garden City in front heading into the final frame.
However, Cloud County rallied late, using a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to secure the 6–4 victory.
Game 2: Garden City 8, No. 3 Cloud County 4
The Broncbusters responded in the nightcap with one of their most complete performances of conference play, using timely hitting and solid pitching to even the doubleheader.
Garden City totaled 10 hits and scored in four different innings, including a four-run seventh that broke the game open. Aiden Wilson led the offense with two hits, including a home run, and two RBI. Sean Togher also homered and drove in two runs, while Mason Tafoya added a double and two RBI at the top of the lineup.
Cody Kilpatrick and Akoi Burton each contributed RBI as the Broncbusters showcased depth throughout the lineup.
On the mound, Andrew Torres earned the win in relief, tossing two strong innings while limiting Cloud County to one run. The pitching staff combined to hold the Thunderbirds to just three hits in the game.
With the split, Garden City showed resilience on the road against one of the top teams in the nation, battling back to earn a win against the No. 3 ranked team in the NJCAA.
