Harris Resigns; Landgren Named Interim Head Football Coach
Garden City Community College Athletics has announced the resignation of Head Football Coach Kiyoshi Harris after leading the Garden City Broncbusters football program for the past two seasons.
During his time at Garden City, Harris guided the Broncbusters to consecutive top-10 national rankings and strengthened the program's recruiting presence across the state of Kansas. The staff placed renewed emphasis on in-state recruiting, signing and developing Kansas prospects who became contributors within the program.
Academic performance improved during his tenure as well. The team grade point average rose to nearly 3.0 through structured study expectations and closer eligibility monitoring. In addition, 52 student-athletes transferred to NCAA Division I institutions during that span.
"Kiyoshi challenged the direction of this program," said Garden City Community College Director of Athletics Mike Pilosof. "He pushed our staff to recruit differently within the state, demanded more from our players in the classroom, and raised the daily standard inside our program. That impact will carry forward."
Following Harris' resignation, Garden City has named Kurt Landgren Interim Head Football Coach.
Landgren has served on the Broncbuster staff as Co-Offensive Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator, while also working closely with the offensive line and recruiting efforts. He spent one season as an offensive analyst at Cerritos College and previously served four years at Independence Community College, where the program won two conference titles. He also coached at Dodge City Community College, contributing to a 2015 Jayhawk Conference Championship.
"Kurt understands our roster and the day-to-day operation of this program," Pilosof said. "His experience in this conference and familiarity with our players allows for continuity as we move forward."
Landgren will assume head coaching duties immediately while the college conducts a search for a permanent head coach.
