Broncbusters surge past Trinidad State, 97–83
La Junta, CO - The Broncbusters used a strong second-half push to take down Trinidad State 97–83 on Friday afternoon in La Junta, improving to 1–0 on the season .
After trailing 54–51 at the half, Garden City locked in defensively and flipped the game behind relentless rebounding and balanced scoring. The Broncbusters held Trinidad to just 29 points in the second half while pouring in 46 of their own to pull away late.
Devonte Reed led the charge with 16 points and six rebounds, while Zaire Lott added 15 points and seven boards. Jordon Nevill knocked down a pair of threes en route to 12 points, and Mangok Gach provided a spark off the bench with 10 points and two steals.
Garden City dominated the glass, outrebounding the Trojans 47–48 (20 offensive) and converting those chances into second-chance points. The Broncbusters' depth was on full display, with 12 players scoring and the bench combining for more than half of the team's 97 points.
Jamir Westry dished out six assists, and Garden City's defense forced 27 turnovers, turning them into transition opportunities that fueled the comeback.
Trinidad's Dylan Omweno led all scorers with 23 points, while Demorae Pritchett added 19 and Manning Shareef posted a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Trojans .
