Garden City, KS — The offensive fireworks continued inside Conestoga Arena as Garden City men's basketball once again put up historic numbers, rolling past Otero College 128–95 on Tuesday night and breaking two program records in the process .
With the win, the Broncbusters (5–0) remain perfect to start the season while continuing to redefine what's possible under head coach Tommy DeSalme. Garden City attempted a school-record 52 three-pointers, shattering the previous mark of 40 set on January 13, 1999, against Barton Community College. They also hit 20 triples, breaking the old record of 17 that had been tied twice — once against Colby (2/24/18) and again versus Seward (3/3/21).
The Broncbusters' offensive tempo was relentless, producing 102 total field-goal attempts, just one shy of their all-time record of 103 set last week against Bethany JV — which itself broke a mark that had stood since 1989. Garden City also recorded 37 assists, only one short of the program record (38) from the same Bethany matchup.
From the opening tip, Garden City controlled every phase of the game. The Broncbusters poured in 70 first-half points and forced 35 Otero turnovers, turning them into 43 points on the other end. The team shot 45 percent from the field and outscored Otero 46–36 in the paint while racking up 24 steals and 11 blocks .
Devonte Reed continued his strong play with 21 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, while Jamir Westry orchestrated the offense masterfully, posting 14 points, 11 assists, and four steals. Jordon Nevill added 16 points, draining four triples and grabbing six steals, and Xavier Johnson chipped in 15 points and five boards. Off the bench, Lucas Kalimba provided a spark with 15 points and seven rebounds, and Zaire Lott added 11 points, knocking down three threes of his own.
Through five games, the Broncbusters are averaging over 120 points per contest, combining high-volume shooting, unselfish ball movement, and relentless defensive pressure — a reflection of DeSalme's signature, fast-paced style.
Next up: Garden City hits the road to face North Platte Community College on Wednesday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. in North Platte, Nebraska.
