Alex Acosta was named the head men’s and women’s golf coach at Garden City Community College on March 13, 2026.

A Garden City native with a proven track record of building competitive collegiate golf programs, Acosta returned home following successful coaching stops at Texas A&M University–Victoria and Otero College.

Acosta most recently served as the head men’s and women’s golf coach at Texas A&M University–Victoria after being hired in August 2025 to lead the Jaguars’ golf programs. In addition to coaching responsibilities, Acosta has remained active within the profession as a member of the Golf Coaches Association and Women’s Golf Coaches Association while also serving on the NAIA Coaches Poll Committee. He is currently working toward completing his Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certification.

Prior to Texas A&M–Victoria, Acosta spent three seasons as the head men’s and women’s golf coach at Otero College in La Junta, Colorado, where he elevated both Rattler programs into nationally competitive teams.

Under Acosta’s leadership, Otero’s women’s program captured three consecutive Region IX championships from 2023-25 while ending a five-year NJCAA National Championship drought. The men’s program reached back-to-back NJCAA National Championship appearances for the first time in school history and finished conference runner-up during each of his three seasons.

Both programs earned national recognition during his tenure, with the women climbing as high as No. 16 in the NJCAA rankings while the men reached No. 20 nationally, marking the first national ranking in program history for the Otero men’s team.

Acosta’s teams also excelled academically and individually, producing two PING All-Americans and four NJCAA Academic All-Americans. Every student-athlete in the program continued their careers at four-year institutions across NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, and NAIA programs.

Before entering the collegiate ranks, Acosta served as a teacher and multi-sport coach in USD 457 in Garden City, working with golf, soccer, and football programs while also serving the community as a KSHSAA official and youth sports volunteer.

A Garden City native, Acosta graduated from Garden City High School after spending one year at Skyline High School in Longmont, Colorado.

As a student-athlete, Acosta played two seasons at Lamar Community College before transferring to Fort Hays State University, where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. While at Lamar, he earned NJCAA Academic All-American honors.
