ARKANSAS CITY, KS — The Garden City Community College men's soccer team came heartbreakingly close to toppling one of the region's best, falling 4–3 to nationally ranked Cowley College after conceding the deciding goal in the 87th minute on Thursday evening. The loss closes out a resilient and memorable campaign for the Broncbusters, who finish the year 11-6-4 overall.
Garden City set the tone early, striking first in the 38th minute when Samuel Murcia capitalized on a loose ball in front of goal to give the Busters a 1–0 advantage. Cowley responded just two minutes later to even things up before halftime.
The second half turned into an instant classic. Cowley briefly took the lead in the 51st minute, but Adrian Campbell answered moments later, leveling the score at 2–2 with a composed finish. Then, in the 59th minute, Mateo Prigent delivered what looked like the go-ahead goal for Garden City — giving the Broncbusters a stunning 3–2 lead over the heavily favored Tigers.
But Cowley rallied late, finding an equalizer midway through the half before netting the game-winner in the 87th minute to narrowly escape the upset bid.
Goalkeeper Axel Padilla turned away four shots, while the Busters fired 12 total attempts, keeping the pressure on a Cowley defense that had allowed just a handful of goals all season.
Despite the heartbreaking finish, Garden City closes out the 2025 campaign with one of the best records in program history — 11-6-4 — proving they belong among the elite teams in Region VI and setting the foundation for an even brighter future ahead.
