Jules Rewrites Record Book, Broncbusters Shine at West Texas Relays
Canyon, TX - Garden City Community College track and field turned in a strong showing at the West Texas Relays on March 20–21, highlighted by school records, national qualifiers, and multiple event wins. Naya Jules led the way with a historic performance, as the Broncbusters delivered one of their top outdoor meets of the season.
Womens Recap:
Naya Jules hit the National Qualfying standard in two events and broke the school record in those two events as well! She set a new personal record in the pole vault at 3.20 meters, placing 4th overall and 41.33 meters in the javelin, placing 2nd overall. The javelin record stood for 23 years! Jules also made her collegiate debut in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.53 and a 26.96 in the 200 meters.
Monifa Edwards qualified for the National championships in the hammer throw, with a new personal record of 44.64 and 43.44 meters in the discus.
Madyson Schreibvogel ran a 3:00.12 in her collegiate debut of the 800 meters. She made her outdoor debut in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.70.
Meryeme Mai placed 1st in the 800 meters and hit the outdoor qualifying standard with a time of 2:16.57!
Reid Harvey-Mckean ran a new personal best in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:01.93, placing 5th overall, Reid also placed 3rd in the 800 merers!
Umahan Sahin set a new personal best in the 1500 with a time of 5:52.41.
Snegugu Mkhize ran a new personal best in 1500 with a time of 5:38.18. She also ran her outdoor collegiate debut in the 800 with a time of 2:45.65.
Maritza Romero made her collegiate debut in the 800 with a time of 2:54.03, placing 8th and a 6:01.93 in the 1500 meters.
Jaquelyne Gonzalez made her collegiate debut in the 1500 with a time of 5:46.97.
Halima Biggs set a new outdoor personal best in the high jump with a mark of 1.55, placing 5th.
Tailee Zermeno set a new personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 32.04 meters, placing 7th and made her collegiate debut in the discus, placing 8th with a mark of 22.93 meters. She also threw a personal record in the javelin with a throw of 21.94 meters, placing 6th.
Men's Recap:
Anesu Makuwatsine hits the qualifying standard in the 400 meter hurdles with a school record breaking time of 54.05. He placed 1st. He also placed 5th in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.17.
Garren McAfee made his collegiate debut in the javelin with a mark of 29.69, placing 6th. He also ran a personal record in the 200 with a time of 24.09. He ran an outdoor personal best in the 400 with a 58.72.
Daniel Aboagye made his collegiate debut in the open 400 with a time of 49.33. Daniel also placed 1st in the 1500 with a time of 3:59.38.
Carson Schmidt ran a 54.14 in the 400 meters as his collegiate debut in the event.
Andreas Laursen set a new personal record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.09, placing 1st overall.
Marius Delchard placed 4th in the 800 meters with a personal record time of 2:01.15 and placed 7th in the 1500 with a personal best of 4:04.50.
Elias Mebitil-Libert made his 1500 collegiate debut with a time of 4:03.99, placing 4th and a 2:05.55 in the outdoor 800, placing 7th.
Brayan Herrera-Ramirez made his collegiate debut in the 1500 with a time of 4:23.29.
Travis Hollins set a new personal record in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.48.
Jerome Anderson ran a personal best in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.68.
Kadan Ponder threw a new personal best in the shot put with a mark of 13.70, placing 3rd. He also made his collegiate debut in the hammer throw with a mark of 39.49 meters, placed 7th.
Isaac Orellana threw a new personal best in the hammer throw with a toss of 37.37 meters.
Eyona Mangumta placed 3rd in the hammer throw with a new personal record of 47.21 meters.
Alex DeLoach made his collegiate debut in the javelin with a mark of 29.35 meters, placed 7th.
The Broncbusters will be traveling to Emporia State University for the ESU Spring Open on March 27, 2026.
