GCCC Rodeo Men Win Team Title at NWOSU Rodeo
The GCCC Rodeo Team wrapped up the fall season by winning the Men's Team championship at the NWOSU Rodeo in Alva, OK. This was the last year for the rodeo to be in the "Alva Dome" at the Woods County Fairgrounds. Next year's rodeo will be in the newly constructed indoor arena on the Northeast side of town, which is scheduled for completion in March 2026.
The top 5 Mens Teams on the weekend consisted of GCCC with 570 points, SEOSU 565, FSCC 450, FHSU 320, OPSU 305.
Rhett Robbins led the way by dominating the Bareback riding where he won the 1st Go with an 80 point ride, then followed that up in the 2nd Go Round with an even more impressive 85 point score, and undoubtedly won the Average.
Nick Lovins teamed up with Brandt O'Connor from SWOSU in the Team Roping to win 3rd in the Long Go with a 6.5, then went 5.8 in the Short Go to win that Go Round, and finish 2nd in the Average.
Jhett VanderHamm won 4th in the Tie Down roping Long Go with an 11.7, but unfortunately missed his calf in the short go, and finished 10th in the average.
Jaytyn Hash won 5th place in the Long Go of Steer Wrestling with a 4.9 second run, 8th in the Short Go with a 7.5, and finished 8th in the Average.
Jaytyn and Jhett continued to show everyone what they are capable of in the Team Roping event as well. They squeaked into the Short Go by finishing in 12th place of the Long Go with a 9.3 second run. They came back to the Short Go with a vengeance and won 3rd with a 6.0 second run, and finished 4th in the Average.
Mark Halliday, and Sebastian Castillo won 11th in the Long Go of Team Roping with an 8.7 second run. They unfortunately took a No Time in the Short Go, and finished 12th in the Average.
Brayden Betsworth finished in 7th place in the Long Go of Saddle Bronc Riding with a 63 point score, he then came back and Won 3rd place in the Short Go with a very nice 76 point ride, and finished 4th in the Average.
Brady Irvine went 61 points in the Long Go of Saddle Bronc riding to finish in 8th place, then scored a 75 to win 4th in the Short Go, and finished 5th place in the Average.
Bobby Davis split 4th & 5th place in the Long Go of Bareback Riding with a 52 point score, he unfortunately bucked off in the short Go, and Finished 5th in the Average.
Our Women's Team weren't able to garner any team points although Sheridan Bubel did qualify for the Short Go in the Goat Tying by splitting 10th -13th place with a 6.8 in the long go. She was an 11.2 in the Short Go to finish 10th in that Go Round, and 11th in the Average.
Our Men's Team will head into the winter break sitting in 3rd place in the Central Plains regional standings, while our Women's Team sits in 9th place.
Our regular season wraps up at the end of April where the top two men's and women's teams, as well as the top 3 competitors in each event will qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming.
Some of our individual competitors sitting in the top 3 in our region standings at this moment include Rhett Robbins in 2nd place in the Bareback Riding, Jaytyn Hash, and Jhett VanderHamm is in 2nd place in the Team Roping, while Nick Lovins holds down 3rd place in the heeling portion of the Team Roping.
The spring season will kick back up at the new Kansas State University Rodeo Team facility in February.
