Broncbusters Explode Offensively in Doubleheader Sweep of Fort Hays Tech Northwest

Garden City, KS – Garden City Community College completed a dominant doubleheader sweep of Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Wednesday, powered by an explosive offensive showing throughout the day.
The Broncbusters (24-20, 11-11) totaled 43 runs on 34 hits and six home runs across the two games, capping the sweep with a 19-1 run-rule victory in Game 2.
Garden City wasted no time setting the tone in the nightcap. After carrying momentum from earlier in the day, the Broncbusters jumped out to a fast start with six runs in the first inning. Maysen Kurene-Iwikau delivered a two-run home run, while Maiarangi Waipara added a solo shot as part of the early surge.
The offense exploded again in the second inning, sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs on seven hits. Reagan Sword highlighted the frame with a two-run double, while Izzy Foster, Jade Hendrix, and Kurene-Iwikau each drove in runs. Waipara capped the inning with her second home run of the game, pushing the lead to 15-0.
Garden City added four more runs in the third inning, including a two-run double from Foster and a two-run home run by Danna Viera to extend the advantage to 19-0.
Fort Hays Tech Northwest managed its lone run in the fourth inning, but the Broncbusters pitching staff limited the damage and closed out the game in the fifth to secure the run-rule win.
Kurene-Iwikau and Waipara led the power surge, combining for three home runs in Game 2, while Viera added another. Sword, Foster, and Hendrix each contributed key RBI as part of a 17-hit performance in the finale.
