Fisher Beats the Buzzer! Broncbusters Steal Instant Classic at Barton
Great Bend, KS—In one of the most dramatic finishes of the season, the Garden City Community College women's basketball team stunned Barton Community College 70–69 on Saturday afternoon when Marshea Fisher buried a buzzer-beater from the lane, lifting the Broncbusters to a thrilling road victory at Fleske Fieldhouse.
Garden City led for much of the afternoon, opening the game with sharp ball movement and perimeter shooting. Luana Luz and Mjoll knocked down early threes, while London Turner and Marshea Fisher controlled the tempo as the Broncbusters built a 17–13 first-quarter edge. Barton responded in the second, briefly taking the lead late, but a Fisher bucket in the final second sent Garden City into halftime ahead 31–30.
The Busters came out firing after the break. Mjoll drained multiple triples in the third quarter, Turner attacked the rim, and Garden City shot better than 53% in the period, stretching the advantage to 53–50 heading into the fourth. Barton countered with physical play inside and second-chance points, setting up a tense final ten minutes.
The closing seconds delivered pure chaos. With Garden City clinging to a two-point lead, Barton converted an and-one with 2.6 seconds left to jump in front 69–68. After a timeout, the Broncbusters put the ball in Fisher's hands. She attacked the key, rose through traffic, and released a soft jumper as the horn sounded—nothing but net—silencing the crowd and sealing the unforgettable win.
Mjoll finished with 17 points, hitting 4-of-7 from three and playing all 40 minutes. Turner matched her with 17 points, while Fisher delivered a massive all-around performance with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Luana Luz added 8 points, and Deija Roberson chipped in 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists as Garden City shot 50% from the floor and 61.5% from deep.
With the win, Garden City improves to 10–2 overall and 5–2 in Jayhawk Conference play, closing the first half of the season with momentum and confidence.
