Broncbusters’ Historic Season Ends in 1–0 Battle with Barton
HAYS, Kan. — A remarkable year for the Garden City Community College women's soccer team came to a close Sunday afternoon, as the Broncbusters fell 1–0 to Barton Community College in the Region VI postseason matchup.
The lone goal came in the 24th minute on an own goal that proved to be the difference in an otherwise evenly played contest. Garden City generated 11 total shots, including four on target, and pushed the pace late in search of the equalizer. Wilma Nyberg led the attack with three shots, while Tahlia Alvey, Gabriella Lima, and Maddison Foster each contributed key scoring chances.
Goalkeeper Isabelle Barsk was outstanding in net once again, recording seven saves to keep the Broncbusters within striking distance. Defensively, Maria Galisteo and Alessandra Tovar anchored a back line that limited Barton to just one goal despite eight corner kicks.
The defeat concludes a historic campaign for Garden City — one that saw the program set a new single-season record for wins, finishing 11-7-3 overall and 6-6-2 in conference play.
Though their postseason run comes to an end, the Broncbusters' 2025 season will be remembered as a breakthrough year that elevated the standard for women's soccer at Garden City Community College.
