Bio

Anthony Calderon enters his first season as the assistant women's wrestling coach at Garden City Community College.

Growing up in Garden City and competing for Garden City High School wrestling shaped both my passion for the sport and my approach to coaching. As the fifth four-time state placer in program history, I was fortunate to earn a state championship along with three additional top four podium finishes during my high school career. I continued wrestling collegiately at Fort Hays State University, where I was a three-year starter for the NCAA Division II Tigers and competed in opens, duals, and national-level tournaments across the country. I later earned my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Fort Hays State University.

My coaching career has been rooted in helping student-athletes grow both on and off the mat. From 2020–2026, I was proud to contribute on GCHS's staff to multiple KSHSAA 6A boys and girls state champions, including back-to-back Girls 6A Team State Championships in 2025 and 2026. Most recently, I served two years as the Girls Wrestling Head Assistant Coach at Garden City High School, helping develop athletes, strengthen team culture, and build a program centered on accountability, confidence, and long-term success.

I believe great coaching goes beyond technique and competition. My goal is to create an environment where athletes feel challenged, supported, and empowered to become leaders in wrestling, school, and life. I strive to connect authentically with student-athletes while maintaining high standards that push them to reach their full potential.

I’ve been honored to receive recognition from the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association as the 2023 and 2026 6A Girl's Assistant Coach of the Year, as well as the 2026 Doug Vander Linden Award for “Character in Coaching.” Those honors reflect the relationships, culture, and commitment to athlete development that continue to drive my passion for coaching every day.
